My colleague Rachelle Doorley over at Tinkerlab has asked me to write an article for her upcoming book. I'm excited about that, and about her book! (And grateful for her patience as I am a bit behind the deadlines...) But I got up early to finish it off this morning.
Stella, of course, got up with me.
And despite the chiropractic adjustments my body will need after contorting myself to write at a table built for small children, it is always delightful and interesting to work side by side.
This morning, it was as if Stella knew what I was wrting about. And she was in full demonstration mode.
Because Sophie has been cast as Cinderella in a local production of the same name, we are a lot more about princesses around here than we might otherwise, usually be. I think. Stella pulled out a princess book and decided that she'd like to make a fan for Sophie. We folded it up and she began to decorate, deciding a Christmas theme would be best. After a time (and a long conversation about how to draw snowflakes), she pushed it towards me and commanded, "Read it." At first I wasn't sure what she meant. But she pointed at the pictures she'd drawn and expected a story. So I made one up. And it wasn't quite what she had in mind, so she helped me revise it until she was happy with it. Then she said, "Now I'm gonna write it."
Then I was asked to read it again. And corrected when I looked at her while I was reading. She pointed to her scribbles and said, "Look at the words!"
Bob arrived at about that time and Stella exclaimed, "Let's go work on our tower!"
An amazing thing growing in our living room!
So many loose parts and stories and stories and loose parts and not even before the second cup of Sunday coffee!
